Assistances

On the occasion of Lüdenscheid’s city anniversary, the next LICHTROUTEN will take place from 28 September to 7 October 2018. At selected locations in the city center, international artists show contemporary art that make use of physical light as a material or medium. Thousands of visitors are expected who have come to appreciate the Lüdenscheid exhibition project over the last 15 years. Since the foundation of LICHTROUTEN 2002, this is the 8th edition of the International Art Project. Along with LUX Helsinki and FETES DES LUMIERES Lyon, the LICHTROUTEN were among the first light art festivals to successfully position themselves internationally.

The LICHTROUTEN assistants have been an integral part of the LICHTROUTEN team since 2002. They are the first to know the programme, meet the artists and accompany the production of LICHTROUTEN. In the preparations, the LICHTROUTEN assistants deal with collective forms of seeing, experiencing and negotiation to develop individual forms of how to address the visitors. At the interface between location and artwork, artists and concepts, the LICHTROUTEN assistants support visitors in their encounter with art through listening and asking questions, through conversations and encounters, through joint reflections and discussions. Important anchor points are always the locations and their history, which are woven into the LICHTROUTEN projects. In 2018, the LICHTROUTEN assistances will focus on Luedenscheid as an international city because the LICHTROUTEN 2018’s exhibition and mediation program is directed to Luedenscheid as urban space of international, intercultural and interreligious exchange.

During the LICHTROUTEN, at all site, LICHTROUTEN assistances provide information, explain backgrounds and concepts of the artworks and to share the experiences with the artists working on-site. We are now looking for volunteers who would like to join the team and care for the audience with interest and commitment. Interested parties are prepared for this activity with a series of workshops. The workshops will be prepared by Bettina Pelz and Tom Groll, the artistic directors of LICHTROUTEN and selected experts. Participants are prepared to become site-guides or tour-guides.

Participation in all workshops is free of charge, there is a small remuneration for the participation as an assistant to the public or as an art mediator in the guided tours.
