TOWNHALL

Lüdenscheid Town Hall is the seat of Lüdenscheid’s municipal administration. It is located in the western part of Lüdenscheid city center, not far from the Wilhelmstraße shopping area. The building was constructed in 1956 and occupied in 1964. It was built at what was then the city’s main traffic junction, the ‘Straßenstern’, now STERNPLATZ. The building put an end to decades of provisional arrangements, namely the division of the municipal administration into more than a dozen locations. The old town hall, built in 1874, had not been able to meet the demand for space for some time, which increased even further with the pending merger of the town and Lüdenscheid-Land in 1969. The baroque two-winged merchant’s house, Haus Dicke, dating from around 1700, had already been demolished on the site of the new town hall in 1951. The building was remodelled and renovated in 2001 and the surrounding area has been redesigned since 2006. Designs by the architectural firm WES + Partner were realised.
