PARASITIC RADIOLARIA
Installation
Parasitic Radiolaria is a project that rethinks the relationship between humans and water. Inspired by the geometric forms of radiolaria, this human-scale inflatable structure floats on water, creating an immersive space where participants experience light and matter through polarized lenses that reveal the photoelasticity of the plastic.
The inflatable becomes a symbiotic mediator, occupying the surface of the water to generate new connections, meanings, and experiences. This space invites us to question traditional ways of anthropizing water, transforming it into a stage for contemplation and reflection, opening the door to new imaginaries about our coexistence with natural ecosystems.
… “my research meanders around the intersection between humans, technology, and natural and urban environments. My architectural studies influence the way I produce my projects. I focus on developing post-human imaginaries that invite reflection of coexistence” …
RAFAEL SOTO ACEBAL “NYZUZ”
Argentinian-born artist Rafael Soto Acebal is constantly driven by his interest in the interaction between light and its behavior with different materials, mainly in which the phenomenon of polarization is produced. As a multidisciplinary artist who develops objects through various processes, Soto Acebal is guided by his background in architectural studies. The main topic he explores is the dialogue between the urban environment and the future development that humankind must have to keep a balance between nature and technology. This interest led him to a posthuman and futurist conceptualization and production of light-reactive objects.
INTERVIEW
Rafael Soto Acebal explores light and polarisation to change perception and consciousness. In this interview, he explains how his art combines architecture, technology and nature to explore new energies and alternative futures.
