THRESHOLD OF SILENCE
Videography
“Threshold of Silence” is an experimental video work. It is divided into three parts: Image walk-throughs of inhospitable spaces, the transformations into negative forms and the translation into graphic animations. The video composition includes a soundscape based on field recordings of the sounds of underground spaces. “I am mainly inspired by nature, especially the urban environment. Places that are rich in movement and dynamism. I focus mainly on negative space, on the energy that surrounds everything. On a more conceptual level, I am quite inspired by art theory and philosophy,” states the artist.
Eliška Kováčiková develops pictorial worlds that focus not on built reality but on energetic composition. She addresses the threatening nature of forsaken spaces, the urgent dynamics associated with them and their psycho-social impact. “In my artistic practice, I not only focus on the visible spaces – their dimensions and volumes, but also try to emphasize the spaces in between: the spaces between buildings, bodies and structures. This approach applies to my sculptural work as well as to other media I work with, including drawing, printmaking, sound and – in this particular case – virtual 3D space. I see these in-between spaces as meeting points of various invisible forces that make them fascinating parts of the urban landscape. Applying this principle to the 3D video work shown at LICHTROUTEN 2025 was a natural step,” states the artist.

OPEN CALL Awardee
From analog drawing to digital animation: Eliška Kováčiková’s artistic practice encompasses drawing and printmaking, photography, film and animation, sculpture and installation. In her own transmedia approach, she explores the relationship between space and perception, material reality and situational atmosphere. Her focus is on the ambiguity of presence and absence.
INTERVIEW
In ‘Threshold of Silence’, the artist explores invisible energies in urban spaces, which are made visible through virtual 3D visualisations. Her work emphasises in-between spaces and hidden forces that shape our perception of urban landscapes. In her interview, Eliška Kováčiková explains why she sees the rediscovery of these energies as hope for the future: Link to interview
